Tea Kee

Background

The project is located in front of No. 67, Fulin Village, Quanzhou — a courtyard long forgotten and left untouched for years. Stepping inside, weeds rise past the knees, wild grasses spread across the ground, walls have collapsed, and dust hangs in the air. A scene of abandonment.

In our eyes, although the yard is no longer complete and forgotten by people, it is the heritage of history, the memory of time, and also the beginning of new life...

It was once lively: a pot of tea on a long table, friends playing chess under the afternoon sun, handmade woven baskets drying in the light, children laughing and running across the yard, and the smell of cooking wafting from the kitchen. We chose to enter not as “planners” or “cleaners,” but as translators — to listen, observe, and retell the space’s story.

We hope to guide people in rediscovering the site’s hidden history and culture — to reconnect with the soil beneath their feet and the plants growing upon it.

It carries our visions of "connection", "memory" and "heritage" : here, people pick herbs, brew tea, try out recipes, push devices and sit around chatting. It creates a real and tangible moment, a slow period of time, and a cultural exchange. Every participation is a connection with the venue, a reactivation of the present with historical heritage and memories, and also a continuation and recreation of culture.
